Glendale’s Annual Armenian Genocide Commemoration: A Week of Remembrance

The City of Glendale announces its Annual Armenian Genocide Commemorative Event, scheduled for Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 4:00 PM, to be held at the renowned Alex Theatre. This year’s theme, “1.5 Million+,” honors the resilience of survivors while paying tribute to the memory of the countless victims of the 1915 Genocide.

Sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, this year’s program offers an enlightening experience with carefully curated segments aimed at educating and engaging the audience. The event will commence with a solemn acknowledgment of ongoing atrocities in Artsakh, highlighting a commitment to raising awareness of humanitarian crises. Attendees can anticipate firsthand accounts of persistent challenges and displacement confronting Armenians, including footage from Zartonk Media as produced by Nairi Bandari. Traditional performances by the Character Dance Group and the Haikian Chamber Choir will be showcased.

Distinguished guests, including Karnig Kerkonian, an esteemed international lawyer and founding member of the Committee on the Protection of the Fundamental Rights of the Artsakh People, and Astrid Kamalyan, author of the children’s book “Bábo,” will be welcomed by the City.

The event will be emceed by Glendale local and respected reporter, Ellina Abovian.
