Another storm system is approaching Los Angeles and Orange counties, scheduled to arrive over Easter weekend, propelled by an “atmospheric river” that could result in significant rainfall across various regions.
The National Weather Service reported that a broad trough of low pressure is intensifying as it moves across the northwest Pacific, projected to reach Northern California by Wednesday morning before progressing southward along the coast and reaching Southern California by Friday night or early Saturday.
“This weather system has the potential to generate substantial rainfall, with models indicating an atmospheric river directly targeting Southern California from Saturday into Sunday,” stated the NWS. “While the exact timing and intensity of precipitation remain uncertain, cooler temperatures, brisk onshore winds, and widespread rainfall are expected throughout the weekend.”
Precise estimates of rainfall amounts are not yet available, but the NWS acknowledged the possibility of “heavy at times” rainfall in the Los Angeles metropolitan area on Friday night and Saturday, with lighter showers anticipated on Easter Sunday.
The forecast predicts rain beginning after midnight on Friday, with temperatures dipping into the 50s. Saturday in Los Angeles is expected to be rainy, with daytime highs in the lower 60s, persisting into Easter Sunday.
In Orange County, coastal and inland areas are also likely to experience rain starting Friday night and continuing through Sunday. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to reach the 60s, dropping into the 40s at night.
