Santa Ana Winds Return to So Cal

Another round of gusty winds is expected to hit Southern California Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday, with a stronger Santa Ana wind event possible beginning Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, northerly winds will develop Wednesday night, bringing gusty conditions to mountain areas and typical wind corridors before spreading into the San Fernando Valley, the Santa Monica Mountains and western Los Angeles County.

Winds are expected to peak late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with speeds of 35 to 50 mph and isolated gusts up to 65 mph in higher elevations. Conditions should ease slightly later Thursday, but breezy weather will continue through the day.

High wind warnings will be in effect for the San Gabriel Mountains and the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway corridor from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday, where gusts could reach 65 mph. Wind advisories will also cover the Antelope Valley, Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys, parts of the Santa Monica Mountains and Los Angeles County beaches.

The winds could create hazardous driving conditions on major freeways and cause crosswind delays at Los Angeles International Airport.

Forecasters say a moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event could begin Friday and continue through the weekend, with Saturday expected to be the windiest day. Temperatures are also expected to warm into the 70s and mid-80s by Sunday. 🌬️
