Glendale Water & Power Celebrates Public Power Week with Community Engagement and Recognition

Glendale Water & Power (GWP) is joining over 2,000 community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities in celebrating Public Power Week from October 6-12, 2024. Together, these utilities provide electricity to 54 million Americans across 49 states and five territories, highlighting the collective importance of public power.

As a public utility, GWP offers safe, reliable, and sustainable electricity at lower rates compared to nearby investor-owned utilities. In addition to providing essential services, GWP also contributes to local programs, supporting initiatives like police, fire, parks, and libraries in Glendale. The utility serves approximately 90,000 electric customers, maintains 500 miles of electric lines, 14 substations, and oversees 14,750 power poles. The commitment of GWP’s employees plays a central role in delivering high-quality service to the community.

Manuel Robledo, Interim General Manager of GWP, stated, “We take pride in providing customer-focused electric service to our community. We also want to use this opportunity to thank and recognize our employees who work hard to keep our utility running smoothly.”

As part of Public Power Week, GWP invites the community to participate in several planned activities:
