The City of Glendale is set to host its inaugural Women’s Equality Day event, titled “Mix, Mingle, & Empower,” on September 9, 2024. This free event, aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women, will take place from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the courtyard of the historic Alex Theatre.
Mayor Elen Asatryan expressed the significance of this event, highlighting it as a historic milestone for Glendale. “This event represents more than just a day of recognition—it signifies our commitment to providing women with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed,” said Mayor Asatryan. “By uplifting women, we uplift our entire community. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating progress and fostering change right here in Glendale.”
The evening will begin with opening remarks from Glendale Mayor Elen Asatryan and LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. The event will feature panel discussions on topics such as contracting, procurement, employment with the City of Glendale and other government agencies, certification pathways for women-owned businesses, and policy insights affecting women and girls. Notable speakers include Julie Clowes, Director of SBA Los Angeles; Carolyn Gan, Executive Director of California Partners Project; Jennifer Coronado from Glendale’s Economic Development Department; Paula Adams, Chief Human Resources Officer for the City of Glendale; Diane Lambillotte, Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women; and Jennifer Palacio from Glendale’s Purchasing & Finance Department.
The event will conclude with live music, refreshments, and networking opportunities, providing a platform for attendees to connect with city, regional, and state officials, business leaders, and like-minded professionals. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit a resource table for information on programs and services offered by various organizations.
Earlier this year, Glendale became the seventh city to join the California Equal Pay Pledge, an initiative led by the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and the Office of the First Partner. This initiative aims to help close the gender pay gap in California.
