Glendale Reschedules Inaugural Women’s Equality Day Event to September 25, 2024

The City of Glendale has announced a new date for its first-ever Women’s Equality Day event, “Mix, Mingle and Empower.” Originally postponed due to excessive heat, the event is now scheduled for September 25, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and will be held at the historic Alex Theatre courtyard. The event aims to promote gender equality and empower women in various sectors.

Mayor Elen Asatryan emphasized the significance of Women’s Equality Day, stating, “This day is more than a reflection on past achievements; it’s a call to dismantle systemic inequality and promote a world where every woman has the chance to thrive, regardless of race, background, or circumstances.” She further highlighted the community’s enthusiasm for the event, noting its quick sell-out as a testament to the desire for spaces that foster empowerment and unity among women in Glendale and beyond.

Event Overview: The rescheduled event will feature a range of speakers, including Glendale Student Commissioner Natalie Hovhannisyan, Mayor Elen Asatryan, and LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. Two panel discussions will follow, focusing on employment, contracting, and policymaking for women, as well as pathways to certification for women-owned businesses and financial opportunities. Attendees will hear from a variety of experts, including Leigh Kearns from the Small Business Administration, Carolyn Gan of the California Partners Project, and several Glendale city officials.

The event will conclude with live music, networking opportunities, and a resource table offering information on services and programs that support women in business and leadership roles.
