Two individuals sustained injuries after their vehicle plunged from the Riverside Drive overpass onto the Ventura (134) Freeway near Griffith Park, leading to a fiery crash late Sunday night, as per authorities.
The incident, reported shortly before 11 p.m., involved the car falling from the overpass, colliding with the concrete freeway divider, and subsequently igniting into flames, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Both occupants of the sedan, identified as a 65-year-old man and a 60-year-old man, were able to exit the vehicle and were transported to a nearby trauma center via ambulance, Humphrey stated.
Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the persistent flames, requiring an extended presence at the scene, he added.
At 11:50 p.m., the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert, closing the HOV lane and lanes 1, 2, and 3 of the eastbound Ventura Freeway at Riverside Drive.
The affected lanes were reopened to traffic at approximately 4:25 a.m. on Monday following the resolution of the incident.
