The City of Glendale will host two public forums on the proposed council districts, aiming to gather community feedback before presenting findings to the City Council. Since June 2023, the City has organized 14 workshops and 6 community pop-ups to engage residents in discussions about the district formation process, seeking input on district elections, communities of interest, and preferred draft maps. In response to the City Council’s request for further input, 8 stakeholder meetings were conducted from January to February 2024 with community leaders and groups, providing an in-depth exploration of the initiative and its procedures.
Residents are urged to attend these public forums to share their input and pose questions to the districting outreach team, comprising Tripepi Smith and National Demographics Corporation. Glendale has received 35 community-drawn maps during the public map-drawing period, with 3 selected as focus maps for further consideration, while feedback on all maps is encouraged.
The details for the upcoming public forums are as follows:
Public Forum #1
- Date: Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 5:30 pm
- Location: Pacific Park – 501 S. Pacific Ave, Glendale, CA 91204 (Sycamore Room)
Public Forum #2
- Date: Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 5:30 pm
- Location: Civic Auditorium – 1401 N. Verdugo Rd, Glendale, CA 91208 (Terrace Room)
Following these public forums and after considering the results of the recent stakeholder outreach, the City Council will decide whether to proceed with the plan. If approved, the plan will be presented to Glendale voters during the November 2024 election and, if passed, will take effect for the June 2026 Council elections, dividing the City into six (6) districts of approximately equal population, along with a directly elected citywide Mayor.
