Caltrans Announces 55-Hour Weekend Closure on Eastbound SR-134 in Glendale

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced a 55-hour extended weekend closure of lanes and ramps on eastbound State Route 134 (SR-134) in Glendale. This closure is necessary for crews to install a new drainage system under the freeway.

The closure will be in effect from 11 p.m. on Friday, April 5, through 5 a.m. on Monday, April 8. During this time, up to three lanes of eastbound SR-134 will be closed between Glendale Avenue to Verdugo Road, and the Glendale Avenue on-ramps will also be closed.

However, at least two lanes and the HOV lane will remain open to traffic. All motorists, including single occupants, will have access to the HOV lane in the area.

To avoid delays, Caltrans strongly recommends motorists to seek alternate routes to their destination during the closure. Current traffic closures can be viewed on the Caltrans Quickmap. Residents and businesses near the freeway should anticipate noise, vibrations, and dust associated with construction activities.

The work on SR-134 is part of a $50.5 million repavement project funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program. Expected to be completed in summer 2024, the project includes upgrades to overhead sign structures, traffic loop detectors, and curb ramps. These improvements aim to enhance worker safety, reduce fatality and injury rates for highway workers, and improve overall traveler safety.

Please note that construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Caltrans reminds motorists to remain vigilant in work zones and to slow down for the cone zone.
